Download the latest NGSC OneDrive SyncClient

Need the new OneDrive (and SharePoint) Next Generation Sync Client on your computer? Download the bits directly from here:

Update 02. Nov. 2016: Download-Link replaced.
Follow this following link to get the latest version of the NGSC client, since Microsoft is currently updating the client almost daily...

If you have an older version installed, this will be automatically overwritten by the new client.

The NGSC client supports OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online.

After the installation you see the blue icon in the System Tray. The About should show the latest version 17.3.6673.1011 (which is updated from Microsoft, see link above....)

The cool part is that you can select the folders to synchronize for each site.

    Thanks Smile - finally. But did the NGSC took over SharePoint sync from the old OFB sync client? In my case, the old client is still there and also still syncing. When, for example, I try to sync one of my Office 365 Groups file library (by clicking on it's sync link in the browser), it still opens the old sync client. How did you manage to get your Sharepoint site into the new sync client?

    Hello Bernhard,
    yes, I was not clear on that: If you have already the NGSC preview client installed, the setup overwrites the previous client - this works. If you have still the "old" sync client, currently you need to manually remove that (hope this will be automatically done in the GA version). I opened the TaskManager / Startup on my machine, looked for the old Sync client, disabled the auto startup, opened the file location - or search for Groove.exe ! - and rename (or delete) that file. Restart - then the old client should be gone. Now the new client should be used when syncing SPO. Hope this helps! BR, Toni

    Thanks Toni - tried that, unfortunately, when I click on "Sync" in a regular SharePoint site or Office 365 Group, just nothing happens now. Did you disable the old sync client before you updated the NGSC to this Preview Version? I already had the (GA) NGSC for OFB, but still used the old Groove client for SharePoint in parallel. I'll continue to try out a few things, maybe completely re-install the NGSC to start from scratch or dig in the logfiles, despite they're a bit cumbersome to analyze Smile

    Hi Bernhard,
    I recommend to remove "OneDrive for Business" from Control Panel - Programs. This removes any registrations as well. Also it's the clean way to make sure that files won't be reinstalled through Service Packs or so.
    Because the old "OneDrive for Business" is part of Office 2013 / 2016, you need to select Office - Change or remove Features - and select OneDrive for Business to remove. Next you need to restart and clean orphaned Sync folders. Then you can start the new sync which will launch the new client automatically. If not, check the new OneDrive version and optionally registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OneDrive
    TeamSiteSyncPreview = 1 is set.
    Regards,
    Dennis

    Thanks Dennis ... unfortunately, I have Office 2016 installed by the Office 365 click-to-run installer where it is not possible to remove individual components easily. But it might be the best option to get this running, so I'll try to do get rid of OFB with the Office Deployment Tool.

    Update: When installing Office Pro from Office365 with the Click to run installation, the old Groove.exe client comes along with the Office package. To get rid of that, install Office Pro with a custom package and exclude the Groove client (until this is fixed by Microsoft...).
