Probably you've seen a lot of photos and videos this week of celebrities and other well known business people dumping buckets of ice water over their heads. Here's why and how we participated in it.
The #IceBucketChallenge is about raising money and awareness for a disease called "ALS" (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) which is a motor neurone disease.
The rules of the challenge:
To accept a person has to dump a bucket of ice water over his head within the next 24 hours or donate money (usually $100) toward fighting ALS. Even if a person completes the challenge, they're welcome to donate money too - actually everybody is most welcome to make a donation at http://www.alsa.org. After the ice water dumping nominate three other persons!
Even "normal" people can and should support this challenge. So, atwork´s CEO, Martina Grom, @magrom, was nominated by Sean McNeill, @S_McNeill, to participate (see Sean´s video here).
Martina accepted:

Also celebrities like Justin Timberlake, The Rock, Conan O´Brien, did it. US-President Barack Obama just donated.

Right now there are about 1.2 million Ice Bucket Challenge videos in Facebook. Till now this challenge has collected about 7.6 million dollars in 2 weeks. Great!

Update #4: Senseless?
Well, there are a lot of opinions about this viral campaign. Please read this interesting blogpost by Avinash Anantha Murthy to decide for yourself:
4 Marketing lessons to learn from the ALS "Ice Bucket Challenge"
Each campaign should have clear goals:
1) Relate to a Cause
2) Be Simple
3) Have Fun
4) Endorsers
The #IceBucketChallenge fulfills them all.
Anyway, we all had (a lot of) fun!
