As European Collaboration Summit (aka collabsummit, or ECS) reaches a significant milestone, commemorating a decade of excellence, it's an opportune moment to reflect on the remarkable journey this conference has embarked upon. With 2,500 attendees, CollabSummit is the largest Microsoft 365 community conference in Europe the world. By the community - for the community.
This year, CollabSummit took place from 22 - 24 May, in Düsseldorf Fair, in Germany, and we had a great time there!
In 2013, CollabSummit started as SPC Adriatics conference in Zagreb, Croatia. The event originated as a regional event focused on SharePoint, Office 365 and related technologies. With a vision to create a large and affordable community driven event, SPC Adriatics quickly gained recognition and popularity in the Microsoft community, driven by the Masterminds Adis Jugo, Nenad Trajkovski, and Toni Frankola in the beginning. The conference was redesigned, renamed CollabSummit and moved to Germany (if I remember it correctly in 2019), with a significantly larger organization team from run.events doing a great job to make CollabSummit the largest Microsoft 365 conference in the world, with 2,500 attendees from 41 countries. Very impressive!
Martina Grom and I are still proud to have been present at every conference from the start, along with many other speakers from the MVP community. We had the following sessions at CollabSummit 2023:
- Develop functional solutions with Azure Functions and Microsoft Graph (Toni Pohl) – Experiences from real world and a SaaS project with Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Monitoring and other Azure services and how to handle scaling, timing throttling.
- What's new in Microsoft 365 for developers? Panel. (Cathy Dew, Vesa Juvonen, Paolo Pialorsi, Toni Pohl)
- Use information protection and governance to secure your data within Azure and Microsoft 365 (Martina Grom) - Available solutions around Information Protection and how compliance requirements can benefit from the toolsets which are available in Microsoft 365 and Azure, especially in regulated industries.
- CyberSecurity panel (Michael Noel, Martina Grom, Erica Toelle, Dominik Hoefling, Neil Michael Hodgkinson)
- Governance for Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform (Martina Grom & Toni Pohl) – Technologies you can use to do Governance in Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform

The numbers of the event were impressive, as Spencer Harbar, Mustafa Toroman, and Adis Jugo announced at the closing ceremony.
As we see, the content team including Mike Fitzmaurice, Vesa Juvonen, Martina Grom, Mustafa Toroman, and Thomas Vochten had a hard time to select sessions… (a snapshot of Anna Imm´s photo).
The attendees and speakers loved the event!
