COD is a Microsoft internal event organized by Microsoft Germany for community leaders (members of the CLIP and MVP program) and took place at the new Microsoft Office in Berlin, at a very noble address Unter den Linden with more than 100 participants. The “Heartbleed” vulnerability of OpenSSL is in the news – well, actually a big part of world´s computer systems can be affected. And your accounts too! Who is affected? So rasch vergehen ein paar Tage USA, schon ist die BUILD Conference 2014 in San Francisco wieder vorbei. In den drei Tagen hat Microsoft eine Fülle von Neuigkeiten rund um Windows 8.1 Update, Windows Phone 8.1 und Office veröffentlicht. Die Company zeigt, dass sie es mit ihrer Strategie um Transparenz und Vereinfachung ernst meint, genauso wie auch die drei Grundprinzipien: Cloud first, Mobile first und Touch first. Für Developer ist diese Richtung mittlerweile wohl klar. Developer Konferenzen mag ich besonders gerne, hier herrscht ein empfänglicher “Spirit” für News, neue Technologien und hands-on-experience. ...

Heute hat die BUILD Windows Conference begonnen. Die Keynote (Nummer 1, morgen gibts die zweite mit ScottGu) stand ganz im Zeichen von Windows Phone 8.1 und Windows 8.1 Update – sowie “Development for One Windows”. Doch schön der Reihe nach… Im (derzeit kalten) San Francisco hat heute die mittlerweile vierte BUILD Konferenz im Moscone Center begonnen, nun zum zweiten Mal in “SanFran” (nach L.A. 2011 und am MSFT Campus in Redmond 2012). Mit etwa 5000 Teilnehmern ist die Build eine richtig große Konferenz. So war auch der Andrang stark und die Teilnehmerströme (gewohnt organisiert mit “go this way please”-Anleitung der vielen Helfer) wurden zur Keynote geleitet (…einmal um die Halle rundherum, damit man nachher geordnet in der Schlange vor der Rolltreppe steht…ohne Worte). Anyway, gerade noch einen Platz in der knallvollen Keynote gefunden. ...

Seit kurzem ist Version 2 (Beta) von Project Siena verfügbar, schreibt S. Somasegar in seinem MSDN-Blog: Project Siena Beta 2: Enabling business users to create apps connected to enterprise services, web and social So schreibt der Corporate Vice President der Developer Division: “This major update changes the kind of impact that apps built with Siena can have within a business. Project Siena now enables business users to connect apps to powerful web services – from popular consumer services to enterprise SaaS to services created by IT.” ...

Zwar nicht ganz neu, aber immer noch eindrucksvoll und schön gemacht: www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/bythenumbers Die Website verhält sich wie die Windows Startseite und kann mit Touch (nach rechts scrollen und tippen) bedient werden. Eindrucksvoll sind u.a., dass Microsoft mittlerweile mehr als 200 Millionen Windows 8 Lizenzen verkauft hat, dass mehr als eine Milliarde (!) Menschen Microsoft Office nutzen, oder mehr als 250 Millionen Anwender OneDrive verwenden und dort mehr als 11 Milliarden (!) Fotos gespeichert haben. Im Windows Store sind mittlerweile mehr als 140.000 Apps verfügbar, XBox One wurde mehr als 3 Millionen Mal in 13 Ländern verkauft und Anwender kommunizieren täglich mehr als 2 Milliarden Minuten via Skype, usw. Diese und viele weitere Zahlen sind in Microsoft by the Numbers abrufbar.

Microsoft OneNote 2013 ist nun gratis für mehrere Plattformen verfügbar. Gibt es hierzu auch Neuigkeiten für Software-Entwickler? Ja! Für Entwickler sind vor allem die API´s interessant, siehe Scott Hansleman´s Blogpost OneNote and Microsoft’s quiet API revolution. Scott schreibt sehr schön, wie wichtig Schnittstellen für moderne Software ist: “The moral of the story here is - if you have no API then you have no story.” Das finde ich in unserer “connected world” sehr treffend.
