Last week, we welcomed around 50 AI enthusiasts at Microsoft Österreich for AI Community Day Vienna for an afternoon of exploring the latest Microsoft AI innovations, real-world use cases, networking, and inspiring discussions. On March 18, 2025, we had the pleasure to organize and enjoy the Global AI Bootcamp Vienna. About 70 tech-savvy individuals gathered to dive into the world of artificial intelligence with Microsoft Azure AI Services, in two tracks, at the Microsoft Austria office. Martina and I were thrilled to organize the Global AI Bootcamp in Vienna for the first time and to attract so many attendees and great speakers even at such short notice. The enthusiasm and participation we witnessed were truly inspiring and we enjoyed networking. We see this event as the beginning of a new chapter for our group, with great potential for growth in Austria, and we hope to continue this series with even more interested people in the future (as we experienced with our cloudusergroup more than a decade ago). ...

Microsoft AI Labs has some nice projects to try out on their website. One is the Sketch2Code project. “Sketch2Code uses AI to convert hand-written drawings to working HTML prototypes.” Let´s try it out! The Microsoft AI Lab projects website shows a bunch of interesting projects. Some of them are probably known, others are worth to explore. The Sketch2Code website informs about the project: Transform any hands-drawn design into a HTML code with AI. Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows to analyze large amount of data, even interpreting and indexing handwritten documents and learning key topics. In the Microsoft AI.Lab, engineers combined Azure Search and Cognitive Services to analyze more than 34,000 pages and scanned evidence photos related to the assassination of US president John F. Kennedy in 1963 that went public. Read more about burning questions and see the results online. Many secret JFK files have been released in 2017, but there were too much information and too much unstructured data to go through. So, modern technology helps to analyze the data and to deliver relevant details. The Microsoft AI.Lab project is using Cognitive Search that is powered by Azure Search with built in Cognitive Services: “It pulls data from almost any data source and applies a set of composable cognitive skills which extract knowledge”. One is the Sentiment Analysis API that allows to analyze unstructured text for tasks such as sentiment analysis based on Microsoft machine learning algorithms. For analyzing a picture, the Microsoft Cognitive Services offer a bunch of services like the Vision API, (Custom) Computer Vision, Face API, Video Indexer an more.
