Ein neues Applikationsmodell ermöglicht Apps für Office und SharePoint zu verwenden, die auf Webstandards und Services setzen. Apps werden nun über Webdienste eingebunden und in SharePoint, in Windows Azure oder bei einem Provider gehostet – sie laufen nicht mehr IN der Applikation, sondern sind gänzlich davon losgelöst.</p> <p>Bestehende Lösungen und Technologien sind jedoch weiter verfügbar. Das neue Appmodell bietet jedoch viele Vorteile. Ein ganz wesentlicher Vorteil ist die einfache und sofortige Installation direkt durch den Benutzer – sofern es im Unternehmen zugelassen wird. Alternativ oder zusätzlich kann ein Unternehmen selbst einen eigenen App-Catalog bereitstellen. Die IT kann dabei die volle Kontrolle über den App-Genehmigungsprozess verwalten – oder einfach den Office Store freigeben, je nach Unternehmensstruktur und –kultur.</p>
